WE’RE HIRING

Hotel Wren is a twelve-room boutique hotel located at the edge of Joshua Tree National Park in Twentynine Palms, California. It’s a space where thoughtful design, intentional hospitality, and the quiet rhythm of the desert converge.

Every detail has been curated with care, from the architecture and custom-built furniture to Windsong, our in-house bodega and gathering space. Our approach is high-touch but unfussy, soulful but refined. We believe thoughtful hospitality has the ability to shape how people feel, rest, connect, and remember.

As a small independent property, we take a deeply hands-on approach to hospitality. We value warmth, professionalism, accountability, communication, and attention to detail across every aspect of the guest experience.

While experience is important, we’re equally interested in who you are as a person. We’re looking for thoughtful, humble, community-minded people who are curious, eager to learn, and genuinely care about creating meaningful experiences for others. If that resonates with you, you’ll likely feel at home here.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Hotel Wren is seeking an Interim Hotel Manager to support the property during a temporary leadership transition beginning approximately August/September 2026 through Spring 2027.

We’re looking for someone who leads with clarity, steadiness, and care. Someone who understands hospitality as both an operational craft and an emotional offering, and who thrives at the intersection of structure, beauty, and intention.

This role is ideal for a thoughtful, grounded hospitality professional who brings both operational excellence and emotional intelligence. You’ll help support the day-to-day rhythm of the hotel while maintaining the integrity of the guest experience and the ethos of the brand.

You’ll work closely with ownership and our current General Manager during a collaborative transition and training period prior to leave, and will help steward operations through a thoughtful handoff upon her return. The hotel is established and operational, with systems and workflows already in place. We’re seeking someone who can step in with confidence, consistency, and a strong sense of stewardship during this temporary leadership transition.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strategic oversight and a willingness to step into the details when needed. The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, highly organized, communicative, and able to support both the operational and human dynamics of a small boutique hotel environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supporting and overseeing daily hotel operations across all departments, including front desk, housekeeping, guest services, property upkeep, Windsong, and minibar operations

  • Providing steady day-to-day leadership, guidance, and support to the onsite team

  • Assisting with staffing coordination, scheduling, team communication, and accountability

  • Maintaining and implementing SOPs and operational systems to support consistency and efficiency

  • Supporting inventory management, ordering, vendor coordination, and operational organization across hotel and retail operations

  • Managing Windsong operations, including food and beverage offerings, wine, merchandise, sales tracking, and vendor relations

  • Assisting with room rate management and backend operational systems including Mews, Diamo, Toast, reporting, and basic performance tracking

  • Maintaining high standards for cleanliness, aesthetics, maintenance, and overall guest experience throughout the property

  • Engaging directly with guests and stepping into front-of-house operations as needed with professionalism, warmth, and presence

  • Communicating regularly with ownership regarding operational updates, team needs, guest experience insights, and areas requiring attention

  • Supporting event inquiries, buyouts, and on-the-ground coordination for small gatherings, brand activations, and hospitality partnerships

  • Helping ensure the hotel operates with consistency, calm, and attention to detail throughout the temporary coverage period

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2+ years of hospitality, hotel operations, or management experience, ideally within boutique hotels or design-forward environments

  • Proven experience supporting or managing day-to-day hotel operations, including guest services, staffing, scheduling, and vendor coordination

  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and follow through independently

  • Calm, emotionally intelligent leadership style with a grounded and collaborative presence

  • A natural ability to create and maintain systems that support both operational excellence and guest experience

  • Experience with inventory management, merchandising, retail, or food and beverage operations is a plus

  • Familiarity with hospitality platforms such as Mews, Diamo, Toast, or similar systems preferred

  • Confidence working independently while keeping ownership informed and aligned

  • Appreciation for thoughtful hospitality, aesthetics, design, and human-centered experiences

  • Experience leading or supporting a small team with consistency, communication, and accountability

COMPENSATION & ROLE DETAILS:

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience

  • Full-time temporary position based in Twentynine Palms, California

  • Anticipated duration of approximately 6 months, with some flexibility depending on timing and operational needs

  • Housing accommodations may be available depending on circumstances
